American Red Cross Lifeguarding is the best place to start! Lifeguarding puts you in an exciting position, working as part of a team to help people safely enjoy the water.
Classes are held at Recreation Center.
Minimum age of 15
Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing using front stroke and breast stroke
Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only
Timed Event: 1 minute and 40 seconds (1:40), swim 20 yards (no goggles), perform a surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet and retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface with the object in both hands and swim back 20 yards holding the object above the water.
