Don Purkey was elected to represent Ward II on the Claremore City Council in May 2011. He was born in Verdigris, but grew up in Claremore. Don graduated from Claremore High School and the Oklahoma Military Academy. He was 1st elected to City Council in 1970 and served 12 years under the old form of government and 10 years under the current Council/Manager form of government.
During his 1st tour of duty as a Council member, Don served as Chairman of the Utilities Committee for 4 years and Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee for eight years. He also served on the Board of Freeholders in 1994, when the current form of government was approved by a vote of the citizens. He currently sits on both the Finance Committee and the Charter Review Committee.
Don has a background in electrical manufacturing engineering and
management. He and his wife Marjie have been married for 49 years and
have 2 children, Scott and Stacey, and 6 grandchildren. Don is a member
of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and a 50-year, 32-degree Scottish Rite
Mason. In his free time Don enjoys golfing, playing bridge with friends
and spending time with his grandchildren.
John "Brian" Callender represents Ward II on the Claremore City Council. He was appointed to the Council on July 22, 2013.
Originally from Joplin, Missouri, Brian has called Claremore
home for the past 20 years. He is the owner of Heatwave Tanning and is
current Chair Elect of the Claremore Chamber of Commerce. Brian is an
instructor at Beaven's Martial Arts and has a black belt in karate. He
and his wife Bridget have 2 children who attend Claremore Public
Brian believes Claremore is a wonderful place to live and
raise a family, is excited about Claremore's future and working with the
Mayor, City Manager and fellow Council Members to achieve great things
for the community.
